![]() Rotary Club member Jack McLean (Right) has been collecting tools for years. As a member of the Rotary Club of Ashtead he collects used tools and sewing machines from local residents and delivers them to the “Tools For Self Reliance” workshop in Carshalton. He has now made 200 collections over the last ten years in and around Ashtead.
BUT Jack is planning on moving from Ashtead and we are looking for a volunteer to step into his shoes by being a Tool Collector. The only requirement is that you have a car with a big boot and a big heart!
“Tools for Self Reliance” is a great charity that for many years has refurbished used tools and sent them to rural communities in Africa so that newly trained craftsmen can have a set of “tools of their trade” to serve their communities and make a living. In this photo Jack is receiving a sewing machine from Martin and Ann Goulder of Ashtead. This will be refurbished and will soon be on its way soon to a clothing maker in Africa. You may have seen the volunteers from their Carshalton workshop selling refurbished donated tools that are not suitable for shipping and don’t meet the charity’s specific needs.
