Ashtead Rotary Club annual seniors’ film show took place at the Peace Memorial Hall this week.
With over 30 visitors, the film – the story of the American photographer Lee Miller – was a great hit with viewers.
The seniors were also invited to afternoon tea during the showing of the film, which starred Kate Winslet whose performance highlighted war correspondent Lee Miller’s journey from a fashion model at Vogue and aspiring photographer in 1937, to a war correspondent for the magazine during World War II.
It highlights her experiences documenting the war, including photographing the first use of napalm in combat, the liberation of Paris, and the holocaust. The film also delves into her personal struggles and the impact of her wartime experiences on her life.
Ashtead Rotary Club organiser, Alex Garner said, “It is always a great pleasure for us in Ashtead Rotary to bring together our seniors, to meet friends, for an afternoon of film, fun and afternoon tea. The annual Christmas Party in November is the next popular event with the Seniors”.
